Dental Prosthodontics

Not everyone is a candidate for dental implants, but to see what the best option is for replacing your missing tooth/teeth, give us a call to set up a consultation with Dr. Skopp. He is experienced in all aspects of cosmetic dentistry and can help come up with the right solution, customized just for you.

What is a prosthodontist?

The field of dental prosthodontics involves restoring or repairing missing or damaged teeth. After completing their degree in general dentistry, a prosthodontist must then undergo an additional three full years of training in order to be certified. Still, Dr. Skopp has taken this one step further, as he has not only obtained his certification in dental prosthodontics, but also an additional certification in dental implantology, all of which makes him your best choice for restoring your teeth to a healthier, natural look and feel.

Types of Dental Prosthodontics

If you’ve got a tooth or multiple teeth that are damaged or missing, you’ll need to find a dentist experienced in all forms of prosthodontics, as there are many different ways the teeth can be repaired or replaced and you want to have as many options as possible.

Dr. Skopp has years of experience working with all types of dental prosthodontics, including-

  • Dental Crowns

  • Dental Bridges

  • Dental Implants

  • Complete Dentures

  • Partial Dentures

Which prosthodontic solution is best for me?

In order to determine which type of prosthodontics is right for you, Dr. Skopp will first examine your mouth and teeth, then sit down with you to determine your overall goals for replacing or repairing the damaged or missing teeth. In order to decide which method is best for you, he will take into account the location of the teeth that need to be replaced, how many teeth are damaged or missing, the health of the remaining teeth, and your budget.

  • Dental crowns are used to cover damaged teeth or on either side of a dental bridge and are mostly used when the remaining teeth are healthy.

  • Dental bridges are appropriate for filling in gaps caused by a missing tooth or teeth and consist of a crown on each side, with a false tooth/teeth in between.

  • Dental implants are a more permanent form of tooth replacement and involve replacing the tooth’s root with a titanium rod, to which crowns are usually attached. They can be used to simply replace one tooth or all of your teeth.

  • Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth need to be replaced, but unlike dental implants, dentures are removable, and as such, don’t look or feel quite as natural.

  • Partial dentures can be used when some teeth remain, as they are designed to be held in place by the remaining teeth. Again, they are used in the same way as implants and bridges, except that these other methods are permanent whereas the partial dentures can always be removed.
With so many different options for replacing or repairing your teeth, you need to choose a skilled, experienced prosthodontist like Dr. Skopp to assist you. After all, you don’t want to entrust your smile to just anyone. So, before you run out and hire the first dentist you come across, you should instead schedule a consultation with our team and see what we can do for you.
